FAQ

Q: What is Homeschool Assist? We are an online tutoring company, provide homeschooling assistance, and have small, live, Zoom classes that bring together homeschooling families and provide interaction for students in a safe environment. The purpose is to make homeschool learning more hands on, fun, interactive, and assist parents in teaching core subjects. Our program makes the child accountable to someone other than the parent. The live classrooms help children to develop and maintain social skills.  Why us? Part of our mission is to place your child with the same students and teachers in class so that they have a sense of belonging and can develop a strong bond with their teachers! As long as there is a demand-we will be here year after year!

Q: Is this accredited? No.  We are here to enhance and supplement your homeschooling program. As your own private homeschool, it is your responsibility to make sure your state's standards are being met. However, the suggested curriculum and classes we offer should help you meet most standards. Some states require homeschools to teach the same subjects that are taught in public schools. Some states require specific subjects such as hygiene and the effects of alcohol. Some states have no requirement at all. To find out the homeschooling laws and requirements in your state, go to https://hslda.org/legal/

Q: Can I hire one of the tutors to help my child with our choice of curriculum? Of course! Visit our Private Tutoring page HERE to purchase private tutoring packages.

Q: When will the ongoing live classes begin and end for 2023-24? Limited summer options are from June 5-August 25,  fall classes and tutoring are from September 5-December 19, spring classes and tutoring are from January 3-May 23.

Q: Will my child have classmates during the live classes? Yes! Kids from around the United States, Canada, and Central America are in our program and will attend the live classrooms at the same time. They will be able to see, hear, and interact with each other and the teacher. No pre-recorded or on-demand videos in our program! However, if you will be gone, you may request a recording of class beforehand from your teacher.

Q: What video conference app/platform will be used for the Live Classroom Sessions? ZOOM. Most of us have become very familiar with Zoom in recent years. Although meeting together in person would be ideal, we live in a very unsafe world. E-learning is a great option to learn from the safety of your home and be connected to a wholesome environment!

Q: Will our family have flexibility? Yes. If you must miss a class, just request beforehand that your teacher record it and send you the link to watch later. The rest of your school schedule can be coordinated around your day. If your child is sick, they can re-join the live classrooms when they are feeling better and continue their other self-guided subjects right where they left off! What about vacation? The nice thing about virtual live classrooms is they can go with you wherever you go!…if you want.

Q: What are the advantages of incorporating your program into our homeschooling? Children need structure to thrive! They are more likely to look forward to the day and be willing to stay on task. Unfortunately, this seems to be the most difficult thing for homeschooling families to accomplish on their own. Our program provides structure and accountability. Before and after the live classroom sessions, you may incorporate additional schooling whatever way is best for your family. Consistency is the key!

Suggestion: Print out your schedule and have the CHILD cross off each block when finished. It gives your child a sense of accomplishment.

Q: Why pay a tutor if my school district offers online public school for free? Each family must choose what is best for them and weigh the pros and cons! Having tried online public school, we chose private homeschooling with the assistance of a tutor because:

1) We want to choose our curriculum and the teachers who are influencing our children…

2) The tutor makes the child accountable to someone other than a parent and starts the day on time giving the child more incentive to stay on task, and…

3) Although some of our schooling is self-guided or with a parent, our program provides interaction they need for social skills, makes learning more fun, all in a wholesome environment!

4) A lot more can be accomplished in less time with private homeschooling, allowing more time for other priorities and family.

Q: What is the cost and what am I paying for? Each instructor has a set rate and varies according to subject, amount of prep time, and length of class.  All costs are on our website!

Q: Why should I use the tutors with Homeschool Assist? We personally chose each team member in this program because:

1) They are great examples as people…

2) They are amazing with children and have received some of the best education as teachers…

3) They are motivated, reliable, and have made choices to do adventurous and amazing things with their time and lives…which is reflected in their teaching and view of education.  All things we hope to instill in our kids!

Q: As coordinator, why are you choosing this homeschool approach for your kids? After having one child in public school, then a year of online public school, followed by 2 years of three different homeschool programs, I found myself liking bits from each one. I want to have more control over what curriculum our children use for each subject, so that it’s as fun and practical for them as possible! I didn’t want them to just be “waiting” for the video to be over or to rush through the material for the correct answer. Personally, I have always loved reading and learning! For our kids, I want them to build a love for learning that they will carry on for the rest of their lives! Most importantly, I want us to have a choice in who is molding the morals and standards they are influenced by.
